Chengdu North Remin Road Extension

Location: Chengdu, China
Site Area: 8.45 sq.km
Building Area: 15 to 16 million sq.m
International Competition Winner

The proposal’s highlights include a Wetland park on the sites southern edge which incorporates a rail line and acts as a connection and natural buffer from the high density urban area and the natural parkland of the Phoenix Mountain area.

The scheme proposed high density mixed use buildings along Renmin Road North, with increased density surrounding each of the 4 subway stops. To the west, a unique water canal was created with a series of individual building sites providing distinct parcels for strong character buildings.
Intersecting the strong North-South axis of large streets are highly landscaped shopping streets providing attractive connections from residential areas, bordering the competition area, to the dense avenues and public transportation.

The creating of terraced housing on the North-west corner of the site creates a dialogue between itself and Phoenix mountain, allowing open vistas across this neighborhood of Chengdu.
